Here’s what I received this month from our meat CSA.
10 lb box:
- Chicken
- 2 Chuck Steaks or Sirloin Tip Steaks
- Ground Beef
- Breakfast Sausage
- Boneless Pork Loin
What is a CSA?
It is a community-supported or community-shared agriculture (CSA) is also known as “subscription farming.” You buy a subscription from a local farmer just like you buy a subscription to Time or Newsweek. But instead of receiving a magazine each week, you receive a “share” of fresh, locally grown or raised fruit and/or vegetables. Some farmers, like Hickory Nut Gap or Warren Wilson Farms also offer CSA subscriptions for farm-fresh eggs, and/or meats. We have purchased from both and I blog about what I’m freezer cooking here. We’ve been blessed to make monthly installments on our meat by contacting our local farmer and asking. Or how about sharing a large portion of meat with a friend, co-worker or neighbor? Read about it here.
What am I planning to do with this month’s local grassfed meat?
- Chicken: sticky chicken
- 2 chuck steaks: crock pot Italian beef for steak and cheese subs
- Ground Beef: Cooked Seasoned taco meat
- Breakfast Sausage: Breakfast wraps
- Boneless Pork Loin: Honey Grilled Pork Tenderloin
I hope you gain some ideas from our family list with your freezer cooking. Does this look like freezer cooking to you?
