What’s the best method for cooking wild rice? FREEZER COOKING. Cook a double or triple portion in an hour and freeze the rest. Serve wild rice again and again without the one hour wait.
Cook according to package directions. Or buy in the bulk section of a health food store and use 2 cups water or broth to 1 cup of rice. I like to use my thawed homemade chicken broth as a base for flavor or add olive oil or butter to the water. Bring to a boil and simmer covered for 50 minutes. Remove from heat and stand for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork and enjoy now and freeze some for later. Cool completely prior to freezing by standing for an hour, stirring occasionally to release heat. Measure in 2 cup portions in a labeled quart size bag. Freeze flat. Thaw 24 hours prior to reheating. Heat in the microwave on 70% power for 5 minutes or until hot. Enjoy again without waiting one hour:)
