Crock pot Beef Tips with Mushroom Gravy {freezer meal}

Can beef tips with gravy be made without all the fuss of browning gravy over the stove top? Why yes it is easy using the crock pot and better yet, a frozen crock pot meal made in advance. This is another easy peasy prep in a gallon bag and freeze in an upright compact position for easier dumping. Slice it open the frozen meal with kitchen shears on crockin’ day and crock for 8 hours. Add the sour cream the last thirty minutes to an hour and mushrooms if you like. You’ll have a Sunday meal on a weekday if you’ve done your freezer cooking homework :)

Crock pot Beef Tips with Mushroom Gravy


  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 2-3 pounds stew meat (or a 3-pound chuck roast, cubed by your butcher)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium, diced onion
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth or stock
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 4-8 ounces sliced mushrooms (can or fresh), optional frozen in a quart size bag
  • 1/2 cup light or regular sour cream or half and half {save for the last cooking hour}


  1. Combine the water and flour in a gallon size freezer bag and mix well.
  2. Dump the remaining ingredients except sour cream and mushrooms in a gallon size freezer bag with the following instructions:
  3. Crock frozen on low 6-8 hours or until beef is tender.
  4. Add mushrooms and sour cream or half and half the last cooking hour.
  5. Serve over egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes.

    Just to clarify, does the beef and seasonings go into the same gallon bag with the flour and water mixture, or does it go into a separate gallon bag?

      Everything goes into the bag except the mushrooms and sour cream. Freeze the mush separately and add sour cream the last hour.

      Yes I’d like to know the answer to that as well, I’d like to freeze one and make one recipe when I make this.
