Easy Cheese Sauce {12 Uses}

My children would live on nachos and cheese IF Momma let them. I forbid them eating nacho cheese sauce from the can everyday. I MIGHT consider them eating my homemade cheese sauce once a week on healthy foods like potatoes, vegetables or meats and occasionally nachos. I know exactly what it’s made of and I know who’s making it ;)

I’ve disovered some really great freezer entrees using this easy cheese sauce. With all these great uses throughout the week, you might consider doubling the recipe below.

  5. Crock Pot Baked Potatoes

  7. Crock Pot Italian beef sandwiches

  9. Macaroni or spaghetti noodles {how to freeze pasta}
  10. Italian Meatballs
  11. Frozen vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflour or asparagus
  12. Grilled burgers




Easy Cheese Sauce


  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper {pinch}
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded sharp or extra sharp cheddar cheese {shred your own if you’re able}


Melt butter and add flour whisking into a  roux on medium low heat. Add milk, salt and pepper and stir until thickened. 3-4 minutes.Remove from heat and add cheese. Stir until melted.

    • You might want to go ahead and double if you have a large fam. We love it on everything as you can tell. Five kiddos licked their plate clean when I served with crock pot taco meat and cheese sauce on tortilla chips!

  3. I like to make mexican a lot and my kids love cheese dip! It is expensive to buy. I am glad you put a recipe up for some because i’d rather make it my self. You inspire me! Keep them coming please!

    Have you tried making this cheese sauce and freezing it? Would that work and reheat okay? I was thinking of making a double batch and freezing for easy upcoming meals if it would work.

    • The milk tends to get watery when thawed and separates from the cheese. I think it would work. I froze homemade alfredo once, but I do prefer it fresh since it’s nice and hot and thicker. I’d reheat over a double boiler method to prevent sticking.
